The Nineties

As mentioned, Ch Drumhill Golden Guinea and Ch Cudgera Grand Slam have both won best gundog at Sydney Royal but further success in General Specials has eluded them.  Grand Slam's son the B/W Ch Azucroft Jumping Jack had more luck in 1992 when he took BIS.  Jack was bred by Robert and Y

vonne Lauder and was from their Royal CC winner Ch Azucroft Helene.
Ch Azucroft Intouch (from an earlier litter and also by Grand Slam), sired one of the two 'high profile' Springers of the early nineties.

Ch Fraelighte Flying In Time

Ch Fraelighte Flying in Time, owned by Kaye McGhie, kicked off his show career with puppy in show at Sydney Royal and followed on with BIG at Adelaide, Canberra and Brisbane Royals.  He also had 2 specialty BIS.  As a sire he produced the specialty BIS winner Ch Fraelight Flame D'amour and the Royal BOB winners Ch Blossomor Bojangles, Grand Ch  Fraelighte French Knikez, and Gr Ch Tholia Take It to The Max.  Like many springers from Queensland, Flying in Time was locally bred and owes his lineage to the old Equity and Crutchfield lines with almost no recent imports present.  His litter sister Grand Ch Fraelight Infatuation was also a Royal and Specialty CC winner.
The other high flyer in the nineties, was himself an import and like Teal before him, a Crufts BOB winner.  Michael and Kate Keely's, Ch and English Ch Bomaris Envoy to Shipden, arrived in early 1990 and by  September had won Runner Up BIS at Adelaide Royal.  This was followed by the same award at Canberra Royal in 1991.  He finished his show career with 3 Royal BIG and two runner up (the last when he was nine years old), plus 3 Specialty BIS and Dalwood Dog of the Year in 1992.

Sparingly used at stud, his son Ch Alhambra Oscar Wilde (out of Ch Wongan Dynasty) is a Royal BOB and triple Specialty BIS winner. Oscar Wilde's younger brother Oliver Reed has four Specialty BIS wins.

There have been a great many imports into Australia and the great majority have been English.  Apart from the 'Doc' and to a certain extent the "Hilrays" dogs, history shows that the few dogs brought in from the States have made little contribution to the show Springer world, either in the ring or the nest.  Sylvan Solero (imp USA) was the only Royal CC winner in recent times - at Melbourne in 1989 - until 1995 when Darren Skipworth's US import NZ Ch Shardust Mirage won BOB and the Gundog Group at Sydney Royal.  Solero's son, Ch Tanalith Mr Matt, also owned by Darren Skipworth, has won BOB at Melbourne Royal 1995 and 1997.  Darren has also titled his latest American import, Ch Shardust Conspiracy.

Recently, Jennifer Lawrence from NSW has imported two Springers from the States, Ch/Am Ch Ocoee Raven's Child and Ch Showtime Makin Waves at Tholia who have both done their share of Group and show winning.  In addition, Raven when mated to Ch Fraelighte Flying in Time, produced  Ch Tholia Take It to The Max (McGhie, Briggs & Lawrence), not only a multi Royal BOB winner but Runner Up Best Gundog at Melbourne Royal 1998 and 2000.  He, in turn, has produced the Royal BOB winning Ch Fraelighte For Play.
