Poppy and her progeny

From the mid eighties onwards, Springers really began to consistently hit the high spots at All breeds Shows, not to mention the Royals.
But one dog dominated at both all breeds and speciality level, like many top winning dogs before him, he was a Clanach and his name was Wrath O' Khan.

Ch Clanach Wrath O'Khan (IID-UK)

He was born in quarantine in February 1985 to Hawkhill One in a Million. (the last daughter of the legendary Connaught).  When he was a week old his English father (Sh Ch Graftonbury Genghis Khan) won the Gundog group at Crufts.  At his first Melbourne Royal, aged  seven months, he was BOB and puppy in group.  Owned in partnership by Merchant and Rickard, Khan was Australian Gundog of the Year in 1987, won the Supreme Dog Star in Victoria twice and in addition to many all breeds BIS, was RUBIG at Melbourne and Adelaide Royals and has the record number of specialty BIS with eight triumphs.
His BIS winning brother Ch Clanach Union Jack, had a Specialty Challenge and  became a noted stud dog with winning progeny all over  Australia and NZ plus Champion sons in Norway and Singapore and descendants all over the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.  Another Jack  son - Grand Ch & NZ Ch Beautelle Craka Jak has a BOB at Melbourne Royal and two specialty CCs.  Jack's daughter Ch Alhambra Vanessa Redgrave was BOB at Sydney Royal 1999.
Jack's brother and sister - Ch Clanach British Raj (Glynn) and  Ch Clanach Jewel in the Crown (Merchant) were Royal Challenge winners, in Adelaide and Melbourne.

Ch Wongan Dynasty

If a Royal BIG eluded Khan, his progeny made up for it. Grand Ch/NZ Ch Penita On Top o' the World (Skudder) won a Royal BIS in Tasmania  plus many other awards including two consecutive BOBs at Melbourne Royal
Ch Wongan Dynasty, (Keely) was the top winning springer bitch of all time in this country.  Not only a Royal BIG (The only major specialty Bitch winner to win a Royal Group) and Royal Runner up BIS winner, she had four Specialty BIS, one Runner Up plus BIS at two Club open shows , and many Royal challenges.
Ch Wongan Khanival was both a Specialty BIS winner and a Royal Ch winner.
Grand Ch Wongan Star Spangl (Quinlan) had a Sydney Royal CC and a Specialty CC .
Ch Wongan Chiffon owned by Babeuf Kennels won BIS at Melbourne Royal in 1989 the only Springer to achieve this. Chiffon also produced Ch Maketawa Chambray, (Babeuf) who was one of Victoria's most consistently winning bitches for a number of years.
